‘The Contemporary Flute’

A showcase of the forefront of contemporary flute repertoire. Megan Robson will join forces for a collaboration blending the tones of the flute and the resonance of the guitar, in an arrangement of Piazolla’s ‘History of the Tango’.

About the Performers 

Gemma Vice
Gemma is a classical music performance student at the Elder Conservatorium. She completed her Bachelor of Music in 2022 studying flute under Elizabeth Koch AM, and more recently, Kathryn Moorhead, and aims to complete her honours in performance in 2023. Gemma has a vast range of experience as a performer; currently, she is an active member of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra and Elder Conservatorium Symphony. This year Gemma is a participant in the Recitals Australia Fellowship Program in collaboration with the Elder Conservatorium, and recently made her debut with the Elder Conservatorium Wind Orchestra performing Mike Mower’s Concerto for flute and wind orchestra.


Haowei Yang
Haowei has performed as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician throughout Australia. Formally starting music journey with piano at the age of seven, Haowei shown great enthusiasm through persistent efforts and outstanding achievements, under the tutelage of Konstantin Shamray and previously Stefan Ammer, Gil Sullivan and Karen Davis. Haowei has received First Class Honours for classical performance in the Elder Conservatorium and is currently studying with Luke Dollman and Konstantin Shamray for his Master of Philosophy, while aiming to continue to PhD in the future.


Megan Robson
New Zealand classical guitarist Megan Robson has recently completed her Master of Philosophy at The University of Adelaide with Dr Oliver Fartach-Naini. She has a particular interest in performing contemporary works for the classical guitar that involve alternate tunings. Megan has been a prize-winner in several competitions including the New Zealand Aspiring Guitarist of 2020, first place at the New Zealand Classical Guitar Competition (open division 2020, youth division 2016), and the SOUNZ prize for Best Performance of a New Zealand Work. She has also received masterclasses from some of the world’s leading guitarists such as Slava Grigoryan (AUS), José María Gallardo Del Rey (ESP), Martha Masters (USA) and Gary Ryan (UK).
