ABOUT MAX
Max is a 14-year-old classical singer and chorister who aspires to become a professional opera and concert singer. He joined his first choir at the age of four, commencing classical singing and piano lessons at seven. His first solo public performance was singing the treble role in Once in Royal David’s City at the Darwin Carols by Candlelight at the age of eight.
Max has had the privilege of singing with Australia’s foremost treble choirs, including Gondwana Voices (2023 ensemble in residence for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra) and Young Adelaide Voices First Concert Choir. An emerging tenor, Max is now a member of Gondwana Singers.
In 2023, Max was fortunate to receive the Grade 7 Singing Prize from the Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB). He was also awarded the Ralph K Hatcher Memorial Scholarship at the Balaklava Eisteddfod, for the male classical singer with the most potential and the Sieben-Scott Prize for 2024 from the Metropolitan Male Choir of South Australia.
On the opera stage, Max made his debut as Miles in State Opera South Australia’s production of The Turn of the Screw in 2022. He also performed in Opera Australia’s Madama Butterfly (regional tour) and State Opera South Australia’s Boheme on the Beach as a member of the children’s chorus.
ABOUT SEAN
Sean (Shengxuan) Zhang is ten years old, and began learning the piano when he was five. His current teacher of 3 years is Gil Sullivan. In September 2023 Sean passed the ABRSM 8th Grade piano exam with the highest pass the ABRSM can offer. Between 2021 and 2023, Sean has competed in numerous Adelaide Eisteddfod Piano Competitions, winning first prizes in many diverse sections:-French composition (Open age), Baroque Era Piano Solo（15 years and under),Romantic Era Solo (12 Years and Under), and Australian Composition Solo (12 Years and Under)
For his consistent and outstanding performances, in 2023 Sean was awarded the Dulcie Holland Medallion by the Adelaide Eisteddfod for being the most promising “Pianist 12 Years or Under”.
Sean also studies violin, and his current teacher is Minas Berberyan. In the past few years, he has also won many prizes in the Eisteddfod String division. Sean has been a member of the St Peter’s College Junior School String Orchestra, Chamber Strings, Junior School Swing Band, and Percussion Ensemble.
