About Paula
Paula is a flautist and piccolo player who graduated from the University of Adelaide, Elder Conservatorium in 2022, with the Bachelors of Performance (Classical) with First Class Honours, under the tutelage of Elizabeth Koch OAM and Kathryn Moorhead. In 2021, Paula completed the AMusA exam and was awarded a distinction and the Associate Prize. She is very passionate about chamber music and in 2023 has toured as one of the members of A New World: intimate music from FINAL FANTASY (dir. Eric Roth) which has performed to sold out audiences across Australia. She has worked with the Burnside Symphony Orchestra as a soloist, performing Mozart’s G Major Concerto for flute. In 2024, she has assisted as a soloist for the Young Accompanist Showcase and underwent a personal study tour to the United Kingdom. This year, Paula has been accepted into the Postgraduate Course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with Scholarship and is looking forward to undertake this next stage of her career and is most grateful for the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland Trust for making this opportunity possible.
About Haowei
Haowei Yang has performed as a soloist, accompanist, and chamber musician throughout Australia. Formally starting music journey with piano at the age of seven, Haowei shown great enthusiasm through persistent efforts and outstanding achievements, under the tutelage of Konstantin Shamray and previously Stefan Ammer, Gil Sullivan and Karen Davis. Haowei has received First Class Honours for classical performance in the Elder Conservatorium and is currently studying with Luke Dollman and Konstantin Shamray for his Master of Philosophy, while aiming to continue to PhD in the future.
Haowei has been very involved in the music scene in Australia and have received a wide range of awards at Adelaide Eisteddfod, including the Miriam Hyde Medallion and the Lady Anne Miller Award. During his undergraduate, Haowei received many scholarships and prizes including, Daisy Burmeister Salotti Scholarship for Pianoforte, E Harold Davies Prize, and Alexander Clark Memorial Prize. He has also embarked on external internships with Accompanist Guild SA, Co Opera, and the JMCCCP to expand his view in the music industry and in 2023, Haowei received the Recital Australia Fellowship.
Haowei has performed at many events across Adelaide, including at the PianoLab with Recitals Australia, at locations such as North Adelaide Baroque Hall, Flinders Street Baptist Church, Government House and Elder Hall. Most recently, he joined the incredible New World Players chamber ensemble and returned from the sold-out shows across Australia led by acclaimed conductor Eric Roth. Haowei Yang is also a part of the chamber ensemble, Serendipity with Paula Custodio (flute) and Bridget McCullough (viola) who are working on a recording project for newly commissioned works. Haowei has also performed Ravel’s Left-Hand Concerto with the Elder Conservatorium Orchestra in September of 2024.
Haowei has also been studying organ with Josh van Konkelenberg and received the St Peter’s Cathedral Organ Scholarship (2016-2018). He is currently playing organ for the graduations and other events for the University of Adelaide and in different churches.
