ABOUT GLORIA

Gloria Paik is a Year 11 student in the Special Interest Music Program at Marryatville High School. She began learning the violin at the age of four and currently studies with Keith Crellin OAM. She completed her AMusA Diploma in 2025 and serves as Concertmaster of the Adelaide Youth Orchestra in 2026. She is also a member of the orchestra’s Mahogany String Quartet.

Gloria has received numerous awards and scholarships. Among her recent achievements, at the Adelaide Eisteddfod, she was awarded First Prize in the 16 Years & Under String Concerto and 25 Years & Under Unaccompanied String Solo sections. She was also awarded the Jane Peters Violin Medallion in both 2025 and 2026. In addition, she received the Jean Adelaide Madeline Dent Prize for the most outstanding performance of the year in the AMEB Violin Diploma examination, and was also a recipient of the AMEB Gold Award. She is also the recipient of the 2026 David Hunter Music Scholarship.

In addition to the violin, Gloria plays the viola and tenor saxophone and is actively involved in orchestras, chamber groups and school ensembles. She has also performed for the local community and in hospital settings as a member of a church ensemble, experiences that have strengthened her appreciation of music as a way of connecting with and contributing to the wider community.

ABOUT SIMÓN

Simón Pazos Quintana is a Spanish-born, Adelaide-based classical pianist, accompanist and teacher. He obtained his Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the Elder Conservatorium of Music in Adelaide, under the tutelage of Professor Stefan Ammer.

Last year, Simón was named winner of both the First Prize as well as the “Special” Set Work Prize. He accompanies classes and exams in the Elder Conservatorium, where he is also a piano teacher as part of the Open Music Academy.

As a solo recital pianist, Simón featured in the Elder Conservatorium 2025 Lunchtime Concert Series, performing works by Dvořák and Turina.

Simón was awarded his performance-based PhD in 2024 under the supervision of pianist Konstantin Shamray. The doctorate was centred around recordings of the full works for solo piano by composer Aleksandr Mosolov and was awarded with a Dean’s Commendation.
