ABOUT Marcus

Marcus Howard, 20, is a third-year undergraduate student at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, studying classical guitar under Dr Oliver Fartach-Naini. A versatile multi-instrumentalist with experience on electric guitar, drums, and bass, Marcus turned his focus to classical guitar in 2022 after studying with Caleb Lavery-Brook.

In this short time, he has performed at the Dunstan Playhouse, Her Majesty’s Theatre, and Elder Hall, earning high distinctions in both of his most recent performance exams. He has received masterclasses with Andrea González Caballero, Georg Gulyas, and Jonathan Paget.

In 2024, Marcus was awarded the Domenic Roscioli Guitar Scholarship. Through this scholarship, he performs on a beautiful 2025 Domenic Roscioli guitar.

ABOUT Kurenai

Kurenai (Claire) Nishioka started learning classical guitar at the age of 4 in Japan. She moved to Australia in 2023, where she now studies privately with Dr Oliver Fartach-Naini. In both 2024 and 2025, she was awarded full scholarships to attend the Sydney Guitar Summer School and received second prize in the Adelaide Eisteddfod open-age category. She has also had the honour of receiving masterclasses from Park Kyuhee (Korea), Gian Marco (Italy), Simon Powis (Australia), and Kozo Tate (Japan).
