ABOUT the Quartet

The St Peter’s Girls’ Junior Quartet, directed by Thomas Marlin, is a specialist ensemble dedicated to nurturing the next generation of young  string musicians at the school. Comprising talented Year 6 and 7 students, the Quartet meets weekly to develop refined chamber music skills, ensemble awareness, and confident performance practice. The ensemble performs regularly throughout the year at school and community events, showcasing both collaborative musicianship and individual artistry.
 

About Grace
Grace is a passionate multi-instrumentalist whose love for music began at the age of five with piano before learning the violin and saxophone. At school, she performs in Stage Band, Saxophone Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, Junior String Quartet, Senior Strings, and the Chorale and Jazz Fusion choirs. Grace has achieved success in the Adelaide Piano, Strings, and Woodwind Eisteddfods, earning numerous awards. She also received the prestigious Gabor Reeves Woodwind award at the Adelaide Eisteddfod. Despite her achievements, Grace believes the greatest reward is her genuine passion for music, something no trophy could ever replace.

About Mathea
Mathea Zhong is a year 6 student at Saint Peter’s Girls school. She plays the piano and violin. She is in grade 6 for the violin and is in AMUS for piano. Mathea takes part in Intermediate Strings as the concert master and is also included in Senior strings and the junior string quartet. Mathea has also been awarded a lot of awards for big competitions. Earlier this year, she won the Chopin International Piano competition in Warsaw and is traveling there in August for the award ceremony and Masterclasses. Mathea has also previously won other awards such as in 2025; she won the silver award for the Singapore International music competition. She has received two 1st places, 2nd and 3rd in Canberra for the National piano competition. Today, Mathea will be performing contrasting pieces with the quartet and playing her own piano solo.

About Ariel
Ariel Guo is a multi-instrumentalist. She plays piano, violin, viola, clarinet, saxophone and is self-trained in soprano classical singing. She has been learning viola under the tutelage of Jennifer Newman since 2025. Ariel is also a member in the Adelaide Youth Orchestras and contributes in the school’s senior strings, concert band, string quartet, saxophone ensemble as well as singing in jazz fusion and chorale. She regularly competes and has won several prizes in the Adelaide Eisteddfod.

About Esther
Esther He is a multi-instrumentalist who is passionate about music. At school, she is part of Senior String, Junior String Quartet and Jazz Fusion. Her instrumental journey began when she first started to play the piano. Soon after, she chose to play the cello during the Year 3 Strings program. In year 5, she started taking singing lessons where she then was introduced to do competitions and exams. Recently, she has picked up the bassoon which was her first time playing a wind instrument. So far she has been enjoying learning something rare and new. She can’t wait to further explore the musical world.

ABOUT Won Jung

Won Jung Lee graduated from the University of Adelaide, Master of Music in Performance and Pedagogy. She continued her studies a s an exchange student at Indiana University.  Won is a regular performer in the Recitals Australia Lunch Hour Concert Series as a soloist and accompanist. She currently studies with Monika Laczofy and teaches piano at schools and in her private studio.
