About Esmond
Esmond Choi is an Australian pianist/composer who has completed his undergraduate studies and continue studies with Lucinda Collins. He is currently studying Master of Philosophy in Performance with the supervision of Stephen Whittington and Konstantin Shamray, Esmond is researching on Charles Ives’s artistic approach on being a musician and the preparation on performing the First Piano Sonata.
As an undergraduate, he has received number of scholarships including The Daisy Burmeister Salotti Scholarship for Pianoforte. He has played for Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Nicholas Mathew, Paavali Jumppanen, Neal Peres Da Costa, Stefan Ammer and Albert Tiu. Esmond is the current pianist for the Novus ensemble with Jenny Hu (flute) and Jack Overall (Cello), and he is the current organist for St. Cuthbert’s Anglican Church. He has collaborated with numerous ensembles like the Elder Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra. Under the name of Elder Music Lab, Esmond premiered George Crumb Metamorphoses Book I.
In 2023, Esmond had made his solo debut at Tempo Rubato, Melbourne and received great success. Furthermore, under the leadership of Dr Luke Dollman, Esmond and few other musicians were selected to be part of a collaboration project with Yong Siew Toh Conservatory’s new music ensemble OpusNovus and presented new music concert in Adelaide and Singapore. Esmond is currently participating in the Recitals Australia’s fellowship program.
