Geoffrey Collins and Alice Giles

Geoffrey Collins and Alice GilesPurchase Tickets

Geoffrey Collins (flute) and Alice Giles (harp) are two of Australia’s most acclaimed instrumentalists, with extremely successful and diverse solo careers across Australia and Internationally. Avoiding the clichés often associated with this instrumental combination of flute and harp, their work is on an international level and the repertoire, carefully chosen, shows their complete accord. Geoffrey and Alice have released Enchanted Dreams…Exotic Dances on the Tall Poppies label, described by George Rochberg as the finest performance of his works available.

Alice Giles has been celebrated as one of the world’s leading harp soloists. The Australian-born musician first attracted international notice when she won First Prize in the 8th Israel International Harp Contest at the age of 21. A Churchill International Fellowship recipient, Alice made her New York debut recital at Merkin Hall in 1983. Since then she has performed extensively both in recital and with orchestras in Europe, America, Australia, and Israel, performing in venues such as London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s 92nd Street Y and Merkin Hall.

Adelaide-born Geoffrey Collins studied at the Sydney Conservatorium with Nancy Salas (piano) and Victor McMahon, James Pellerite and Margaret Crawford (flute). Geoffrey has held a number of the country’s most coveted flute positions, including associate principal flute and frequent guest principal with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and, for many years, principal flute with the Australian Chamber Orchestra. A concerto soloist with most of Australia’s leading orchestras, he has also played with such contemporary music groups as AZ Music, ACME, the Seymour Group, Flederman and the Sydney Alpha Ensemble.

The program will include works by Piazzolla, Debussy, Jongen, Salzedo and more!
